Goal Setting

                  
A goal is something or a target a person strives to achieve in life and to which he directs his efforts.
         Goal setting is the activity which helps us to achieve in life.
                TYPES OF GOALS
A. Long-term goals- these are goals to he achieved over a long period of time, such as from six months.
B. Short-term goals- these are goals to be achieved over a short period of time such as a week to one month..
       IMPORTANCE OF GOAL SETTING
A. It is a guide to decision making
B. It gives meaning and direction to somebody's activities
C. It increases chances of achieving one's ambition
D. It helps to plan one's action
       IDENTIFICATION OF INDIVIDUAL GOALS
 young people are encouraged to identify  and set goals for themselves in order to direct their lives in productive ways. Achievement of small goals encourages one to work towards greater goals and accomplish more in life. Values influence the decisions we make and these decisions contribute to the achievement of our goals.
 DIFFICULTIES IN GOAL SETTING
The difficulties in setting goal for the future include:
A. A pessimistic attitude. Always seeing the difficulties in something instead of possibilities.
B. Fear of failure
C. Lack of ambition
D. Fear of rejection
E. Procrastination
F. Low self-esteem
G. Ignorance of the importance of goal setting
H. Lack of knowledge about goal setting.
 BARRIERS OF ACHIEVING GOALS 
A. Lack of information
B. Teenage pregnancy
C. Dropping out of school
D. Peer pressure
E. Child marriage
F. Bad company
         EFFECTS OF ACHIEVING SET GOALS
A. It increases self-esteem
B. It motivates one to set larger goals
C. It gives a feeling of achievement
D. It gives self-confidence
